Setting the scene,
Have you ever had to let go of someone, either of your own volition or unwillingly? Do you remember how it felt, the heartache? Do you remember how you cried yourself to sleep on so many nights? How you thought life was never going to be the same again?
I ask you to hold on to that feeling, even though it may still hurt. You might need to digest this poem piece by piece no rush, I will see you on the other side. Let’s begin.
To Let Go
You must learn how to let go, for nothing is truly yours to keep. Remember that you are never alone. When people like a river flow, and leave you with a creek. You must learn how to let go. Chirping birds, melting ice show what you had was not that deep. Still remember that you are never alone. People come and people go. Your heart bleeds yet Child I plead, You must learn how to let go. Strike a match, burn the photos, rage as wildfire, and then weep. In your pain, remember that you are never alone. Tired and bruised is your soul, I, beside you as you breathe in your last. You must learn how to let go. I hope you remember even in death that you are never alone.
In your pain, remember that you are never alone.
How difficult is it to believe that we are never alone when that dear friend ends the relationship or when true love is never really true in the end? Oh how hard it was, the heartache and the disappointment. What they say is true, you can feel your heart as it breaks. It is a piercing pain and sometimes you can feel the air being sucked right out of your lungs.
The only comfort I had in heartache was that I was not alone, God was with me. He sat down with me as I tried to piece together where everything went wrong. He held me in His arms as I cried myself to sleep, reassuring me I was never alone. On the nights I screamed at Him, questioning the state of affairs, being utterly annoyed, tired and confused He never once turned His face away.
If you have not noticed it already, To Let Go was written in God’s POV. It might be worth it to give it another read with that realization.
I pray this encourages you, especially if you find yourself in a season of navigating heartbreak. Remember God is not afraid of our questions, pain, and hurts. He longs that in our lowest of lows and most painful seasons, we draw near to Him. The nights will be long, and the days will be short, but one thing is for certain: He is with you.
